What is a House Concert?
A house concert is an invitation-only concert in someone’s home, presented by a host who does not profit from the event. It is considered a “private party” yet it is not your typical “party” environment. House concerts are well-appreciated by artists and attendees alike for the attentiveness of the audiences, the respect given to the performers and the relaxed intimacy of the events. While they are not commercial endeavors, the artists profit by receiving donations that are collected. It is our view that there is no better venue to listen to live acoustic music, particularly traditional Irish music, than a house concert setting. After all, Irish music has its roots in homes all over Ireland, where children grew up literally playing under the kitchen table while their parents played music around it.
A house concert is the best way to be up-close and personal with the music without the distractions of noisy pubs and concert venues.
A concert typically:
- is held indoors
- is attended by 20 – 50 people
- features performances by solo, duos, and small groups
- is performed with a very small sound system or no amplification depending on the rooms used
- includes two 40-minute sets with a 20-minute break
- is funded by a set donation per guest the total of which is paid to the artists
